Chicken Shawarma Wraps

Some nights you want something a little more exciting for dinner, without spending ages in the kitchen. These Chicken Shawarma Wraps are just the thing. Juicy spiced chicken, crunchy fresh salad and creamy garlic dip, all wrapped up in soft pita or souvlaki bread.

The chicken thighs are coated in a simple marinade of shawarma spice, olive oil and lemon juice, then cooked until golden and full of flavour. While they’re cooking, get your salad, bread and dips ready and you can have dinner on the table in less than 30 minutes.

This is a favourite in our house because everyone can build their own wraps. Extra chicken, a generous spoonful of garlic dip, a little less salad… whatever takes their fancy! Put everything out and let everyone tuck in. It’s a simple family dinner that works just as well on a busy weeknight as it does on a relaxed weekend.

Why You’ll Love These Chicken Shawarma Wraps

  • Dinner in less than 30 minutes: Minimal prep and a simple marinade make these wraps a great option for busy nights.

  • Big on flavour: Warm shawarma spices and a splash of lemon turn chicken thighs into a juicy, delicious wrap filling.

  • Everyone makes their own: Put everything on the table and let the family choose their favourite fillings.

Top Tips

  • Prep ahead for extra flavour: If you have time, marinate the chicken in advance and keep it covered in the fridge until you’re ready to cook.

  • Give the chicken room: If pan-frying, cook in batches so the chicken turns golden rather than steaming in a crowded pan.

  • Go easy on the fillings: Start with a little of everything, you can always make another wrap! Overfilled wraps can be tricky to fold and messy to eat.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve the chicken with warm pita or souvlaki bread, fresh salad and garlic dip or tzatziki. Lettuce, cucumber, tomato and thinly sliced red onion are easy options.

  • For a more generous dinner, add a side of chips or a fresh salad. You can also skip the wrap and serve the chicken in a bowl with rice, salad and your favourite dip.

Variations

  • Change the dip: Try hummus for a different flavour.

  • Add something tangy: Pickled cucumber or pickled onion makes a lovely addition.

  • Make a shawarma bowl: Serve the chicken over rice with salad and a spoonful of tzatziki.

  • Add some heat: Finish your wrap with chilli sauce if you like a spicy kick.

Frequently Asked Questions

What bread should I use for chicken shawarma wraps?
Soft pita or souvlaki bread is my favourite for these wraps. Warm it before filling so it’s soft and easy to fold. Your usual flatbread or tortilla wraps will work too, use what you enjoy or have on hand.

What sauce goes with chicken shawarma?
I love creamy garlic dip or tzatziki with the warm spices in the chicken. Hommus is delicious too, or try a combination of garlic dip and hommus! Put a few options on the table and let everyone choose their favourite.

Can I prepare anything ahead?
Yes! Marinate the chicken and chop your salad ingredients ahead of time, then keep them covered separately in the fridge. When dinner time rolls around, just cook the chicken, warm the bread and let everyone build their wraps. A little prep ahead makes dinner that much easier!

Can I use chicken breast instead of thighs?
Absolutely. I prefer thighs because they stay nice and juicy, but chicken breast works well too. Depending on the thickness of the pieces, it may cook more quickly, so keep an eye on it to avoid overcooking.
