Ingredients

  • 1 Apple
  • 40g unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 1 tablespoon desiccated coconut

Instructions

  1. Peel and core the apple. Slice in half from top to bottom. Slice a small sliver of apple off the rounded edge and discard. This edge will become the base of your baked apple.
  2. In a small bowl, stir butter and cinnamon together. Brush over the top of your apple
  3. Add rolled oats, flour, coconut and sugar to the remaining butter/cinnamon mixture and stir together.
  4. Spoon the crumble mixture onto the flat side of the apples.
  5. To cook in the air fryer: Place the apples on the air fryer tray and cook on 170ºC for 18 minutes or until soft in the centre.
  6. To cook in the oven: Place the apple pieces into a baking tray or dish and cook on 160ºC for 25-30 minutes, or until soft in the centre.
  7. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or your favourite custard.

Notes

If you don’t wish to use crumble, other options for baked apples are:

🍏 Brush the tops with a combination of melted butter and cinnamon then bake.

🍎 Drizzle with honey or maple syrup with a sprinkle of cinnamon then bake.

🍏 You can easily make these gluten free and dairy free by swapping suitable substitutions such as quinoa flakes, coconut sugar, Nuttelex/coconut oil, gluten free flour.

🍎 I found ½ an apple was a suitable serving for 1 person.

🍏  I chose to use Granny Smith Apples, however you could use any apples you have at home. Perfect excuse to use up the apples from the fruit bowl.

🍎  You could even make this for a sneaky breakfast treat and serve with yoghurt.
