Homemade Christmas Granola
Every December, my kitchen fills with the smell of cinnamon and mixed spice - my favourite time of year, when we all know “Christmas is coming!”
This Homemade Christmas Granola brings together all those cosy, nostalgic flavours with hardly any effort. Whether you make it in the slow cooker or the oven, it turns out golden, crunchy and full of festive warmth every single time.
Start your holiday mornings with a bowl of this beautifully spiced granola, or make a big batch to enjoy throughout December. It also makes the sweetest homemade gift. Just spoon it into jars and tie with a ribbon.
Simple to make and unbelievably crunchy, this Homemade Christmas Granola is a festive season must-have… whether you're gifting it or keeping it all for yourself.

Christmas Granola
Ingredients
- ¼ cup maple syrup/honey
- ¼ cup coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups rolled oats
- ½ cup raw almonds, roughly chopped (or any other raw nuts you wish)
- ½ cup coconut flakes
- ½ cup seeds (combination of chia seeds, flax seeds, pepitas, sunflower seeds)
- 2 teaspoons each of cinnamon, nutmeg, mixed spice
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- ½ cup dried fruit or dried cranberries (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the slow cooker on high heat whilst you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
- In a small saucepan, melt maple syrup, coconut oil and vanilla on low heat. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
- In a large bowl, mix all dry ingredients together.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until well combined.
- Pour the granola into the slow cooker. Place a clean tea towel under the lid and set the timer to 1 ½ hours. Stir every 30 minutes. If the granola is golden it is ready. I like to check mine at 1 hour 15 minutes as it is sometimes ready.
- Turn the power off the slow cooker and remove the lid. Allow the granola to cool completely, stirring occasionally. When the granola has cooled down, it will crisp up nicely.
- If you are adding dried fruit to your granola, you can add it once the granola has finished cooling.
Notes
🤶 Store in a clean glass jar.
🤶 Feel free to use any combination of nuts or seeds you wish in the recipe. Or you are free to leave the nuts out all together if you desire. If leaving the nuts out completely, add an extra ½ cup of seeds.
🤶 If cooking your granola in the oven, preheat the oven to 150ºC. Follow steps 2-4 and pour onto a lined baking tray and cook for 15 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes. Be careful not to overcook it. When the granola has finished cooking, gently stir it and continue to stir occasionally until completely cool.
🤶 If you are lucky enough to have access to the Gewurzhaus spice range, use 1 tablespoon of their ‘Christmas Cake and Pudding Spice’ or ‘Gingerbread Spice’ instead of the cinnamon, nutmeg, mixed spice and all spice. Gewurzhaus is a lovely German spice shop based in Melbourne, Australia. You can purchase their range online.
