Slow Cooker Zesty Choc Granola
I have to say, this Zesty Chocolate Granola is my new favourite! After making my own granola for years, I just can’t go back to store-bought. Once you taste homemade granola, you’ll understand why - the flavour, the crunch, the freshness… it’s next-level.
This Slow Cooker Zesty Choc Granola combines the rich, dark notes of chocolate with the bright, citrusy zing of orange zest. It’s the kind of breakfast that actually feels exciting to wake up to. Full of crunch, wholesome ingredients and just the right amount of sweetness.
One of the best parts? It’s budget-friendly and made with real ingredients, giving you total control (and no hidden sugars). Plus, the slow cooker does all the hard work. All you need to do is stir occasionally and let the warm, toasty aroma fill your kitchen.
I love serving it with yoghurt and berries, but honestly… I’ve been caught eating handfuls straight from the jar. 😉

Oven-Baked Zesty Choc Granola
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup maple syrup/rice malt syrup/honey
- ¼ cup coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Zest of 1 orange
- 2 cups rolled oats
- ½ cup raw almonds, roughly chopped (or other nuts if you wish)
- ½ cup coconut flakes or desiccated coconut
- ½ cup seeds (pepitas & sunflower seeds)
- 1 heaped tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 heaped tablespoon flax seeds
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 100g dark chocolate, roughly chopped
- Optional: 1/2 cup diced dried fruit
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 160ºC Fan Forced. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Zest the orange and set aside whilst you continue with the rest of the recipe.
- In a small saucepan, melt rice malt syrup, coconut oil and vanilla on low heat.
- Add the dry ingredients to a large mixing bowl along with the orange zest and mix together.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until well combined.
- Spread onto the baking paper and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes or until golden. Be careful not to overcook the granola.
- Once the granola has cooled completely, add dark chocolate and any dried fruit that you would like to add.
Notes
- Feel free to use any nuts or seeds you wish in the recipe.
- Leave nuts out if you can’t eat them.
- Make sure the nuts are raw as they cook in the slow cooker.
- Nuts I often use are: almonds, cashews, pecans or walnuts
- Feel free to use milk chocolate if you don't like dark chocolate
- Serve by itself, with milk or topped with yoghurt and fresh fruit
- Store in a large jar or airtight container
- The granola will keep for up to 3 months
- If you like to add dried fruit to your granola, add ½ cup of diced dried fruit at the end of step 6.
