Malibu Sunrise

If you’re after a quick, refreshing and easy summer cocktail, this Malibu Sunrise is going to be your new go-to drink.

Made with Malibu (or tequila/vodka/Bacardi), orange juice, ice and a splash of grenadine, it creates the prettiest layered sunrise effect with zero effort.

This is my kind of cocktail: quick to make, no fancy ingredients and always a crowd-pleaser. I love serving these when friends pop over or when we’re having a relaxed BBQ outside.

It’s sweet, tropical and so refreshing… the kind of drink that makes you feel like you’re on holiday, even if you’re just sitting in your own backyard.

Ingredients

  • 30ml Malibu (or tequila, vodka or Bacardi)
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 cup (250ml) orange juice
  • 10–15ml grenadine
Malibu Sunrise Mocktail (No-alcohol version)
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 cup (250ml) orange juice
  • 20ml mango or tropical juice (for the “Malibu vibe”)
  • 10–15ml grenadine

Instructions

Cocktail
  1. Fill the glass: Add 1 cup of ice to a tall glass.
  2. Pour: Add the orange juice and Malibu.
  3. Finish: Slowly pour the grenadine over the juice - it will sink and create a “sunrise” effect.
  4. Serve: Enjoy immediately.
Mocktail
  1. Fill your glass with ice.
  2. Pour in orange juice and a splash of mango or tropical juice.
  3. Finish with a slow drizzle of grenadine so it settles at the bottom for that perfect “sunrise” look.

Notes

  • Pour slowly: Add the grenadine last and slowly to get that perfect layered sunrise effect.
  • Make it stronger: Use 45ml Malibu or swap to tequila, vodka or Bacardi for a less sweet version.
  • Make a jug: Multiply everything by 4-6 and pour grenadine last just before serving.
