Ingredients

For the sandwich
  • 1 packet 4x Turkish bread rolls (or crusty rolls)
  • 1.5–2 pieces sizzle steak/sandwich steak per person
  • oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2–4 slices cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or your favourite)
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1 cup lettuce (any type)
Sauces & Spreads
  • Tomato relish (or barbecue/tomato sauce)
  • Aioli (or mayo)
  • Butter, for toasting

Instructions

Prepare the bread
  1. Preheat a frypan over medium heat.
  2. Cut the Turkish bread in half, butter the cut sides, and toast butter-side down until golden.
Cook the bacon & egg
  1. In the same pan, cook bacon and eggs until done to your liking. Set aside.
Cook the steak
  1. Heat a grill plate or frypan over medium-high heat.
  2. Lightly spray steaks with oil, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 1 minute per side (or until done to your preference).
  3. Remove from heat, cover, and let rest.
Assemble the sandwich:
  1. Spread relish, barbecue sauce, or tomato sauce on the bottom half of the toasted bread.
  2. Layer with steak, egg, bacon, cheese, tomato, carrot, and lettuce.
  3. Spread aioli on the top half of the bread and place on top.
  4. Serve immediately, with hot chips or a simple salad on the side. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Optional Additions: Grilled onions, Cucumber slices
  • Classic Aussie Twist: Add beetroot and pineapple for an iconic Aussie steak sandwich!
  • Barbecue-Friendly: Cook everything on the BBQ for extra smoky flavour! 🔥
  • Add a Spicy Kick: Use chipotle, peri peri, or sriracha mayo for some heat! 🌶️
  • Switch Up the Protein: Try grilled chicken, lamb sausage, or crispy chicken schnitzel instead of steak.
  • Upgrade the Bread: Swap Turkish bread for ciabatta, sourdough, or brioche buns.
  • Flavour Boost: Spread the bread with homemade pesto or sun-dried tomato paste.
